Day 3

On day 3 we drove all day, no stopping for sight seeing except food breaks.
Breakfast was at Strange donuts still in St. Louis.
Everyone we talked to on our trip was so nice, and once they heard about where we going they were always so interested. When the man behind the donut counter first saw us taking photos outside the shop, he must have thought "typical tourists" because he said "first time?" when we came in laughing. And of course, we were typical tourists, but with a grander road trip than average i think. Once we explained our trip he seemed to be genuinely interested and thought it sounded great!

Apparently Strange Donuts is a very popular shop, as were all of Brandy's food choices. She got the Gooey Butter Donut, which is what they are famous for i guess, and i got the white long john, and Jess got the bacon maple. (BigBig shared with Jess as she could never finish a meal.) And no, we were not worried about making healthy choices for this trip, i don't think i ate any vegetables at all some days. Plenty of time for healthy choices once we got back.
Then we drove for hours until we got to Kansas City. We had a lunch at Joe's barbecue, which Anthony Bourdaine named one of the top 13 places to eat in the world. They had serving long lines of customers down to a science. We got through quickly, easily and, yes, the food was awesome, and i am not normally a fan of barbecue really. We all got a different sandwhich and we were all thrilled with how good it was. Totally worth stopping there if you are ever close!
And on top of the food, there were friendly workers. The lady behind the counter where i was trying to buy Joe's Barbecue T-shirts for my son and husband, asked if my oldest daughter and i were twins or just sisters! I had to check to make sure she wasn't just being flattering, but she seemed to be genuinely surprised when i said i was her mom! I just love Kansas City!

What i didn't love was the rest of the day driving through kansas.
Endless farms.
Endless
Flat
Farms.
Endless.
We didn't get to our hotel in Denver until 9:30, which was actually 10:30 pm if you consider we drove through a time zone change. The traffic after dark in Denver was horrible as they were shutting down lanes after dark for late night construction, and the garmin failed us again because of that.
One more fear, driving in city traffic after dark!
