layers

I love seeing the steps below the finished piece, and that is the theme over butterfly effect.... go here to see more!  soooo....

although you saw this piece on friday, the video i posted was not working the way i wanted and the last 2 minutes of painting it didn't post.... ok , i know, maybe it's not the devices, maybe it's just me, I can't seem to get computer stuff to work properly.... any how...

here's what it looked like first...glueing down the paper from the video...
 gesso over the shiny cover...

 blue over all....
 smooshes of pink....
now gray lightly over all... then wipe areas off with a baby wipe....
the face is acrylic and oil pastels....
and here's the final piece, done again..

and so as not to be too repetitive... here's something new I made last week or so...

 with closeups....

so...

Come back friday for more art....

 tons of art,

TONS...

I mean it, I've been busy with two new obsessions!

Tons!!!

Just wanted to Share the Joy today.... these are some of the replacement origami stars my mother made for me as the  jar of them she gave me last year is almost gone. I open one a day at work and they have words of wisdom on the inside...

so here's a page in my Book of Days that uses one of the messages from the inside...

Go here for more joy!

Queen of heaven

photo.JPG, a photo by lelloavengers on Flickr.

I didn't do much in my art journal this week, I keep changing my mind on what I want to put in it... But I finished this that I started weeks ago, maybe even months!

Thank goodness for today's snow day!

It's all white outside as I type....in my pj's....Eatting dried kiwis...with my son climbing on my head... Maybe this will be a good day to get some new stuff on etsy... I decided not to quit it yet....

So nice not to have to sit at a desk in an office with no windows in an old dusty building! Oh wait, I'm trying to think positive again and that sounded whiney.....Change that to thankful I have a job! And thankful I have a boss who doesn't mind me calling in for bad weather!

Better right?

Happy paint party Friday!

odwalla

Happy paint party Friday!
I'm showing a few more pages in my art journal, I showed afew yesterday if you missed them....
These first two are me trying to avoid the all or nothing thing I do with sugar. If I have any I figure I've blown it and just keep eating. So, like my word for the year, I'm trying to achieve Balance and not give up just because I forgot to have my green smoothie. The art is from an odwalla label, I get them in case I run out of time to make the smoothie, I can still grab one of these to take to work!

The next photos are actually of the front cover. Effywild, in her video for the book of days, showed making pockets and slipping in a letter to 2011, so that's what I did. I reworked a beautiful Christmas card I received for the pocket, and the letter. Effywild also made a secret pocket for a letter to 2012 which I didn't do.
See you all next week!
Thanks for visiting!

competitive meals

It's been very nice having all 4 of my kids home over the holidays.... And to help my husband, the cook out, we have started a new thing here, new for us at least.... We each take a night to cook, and all but the youngest participate so that's five nights taken care of! and as I may have mentioned before... My family is very competitive, so this has become a "who can make the best meal" kind of thing.... But in a fun way! I am by far the worst cook of the family and I get home the latest so it's been a challenge to come up with something quick and good. So excuse the paper plates on my night and the lack of magazine quality photos but here's my chicken cutlets with mushroom sauce and mustard asparagus from last night. My son said it was his favorite of all our meals so far and we've been doing this for 2 weeks. This is more of a shock than you may realize as I expected them to be saying,"oh... God.... It's Moms night!?!". On their night most of them so far have come up with wonderful meals without even using recipes, and they just throw in all these spices and herbs, while I follow a recipe exactly, no variation if I can help it! Can't wait to see what we have for dinner tonight!

I almost forgot... I'm linking this to time travel thursday on the sidebar....
and share the joy! At http://meriak.blogspot.com/

paint and Palette

Here's a few pages from my book of days... I did a spread of my goals and resolutions in circles, and the next pic shows my "palette" as I usually have only a few minutes hear and there to paint instead of a few hour stretch, so to save time and make it easy to pick up if I have to quit... I just paint right out of the bottle caps and mix colors either in the caps or on the painting. If I had longer I'd use better paints and a real palette, but for now it works!
(linking to paint and palette, you can click on the side bar to see more palettes)

This photo is of another page in my altered book that fits the theme at Butterefly effect of "Into the Woods".  When I heard the theme I expected to think of fairy-tale forests, nature goddesses, fairy houses, sweet dappled woods and such, instead I actually thought of a very real, very clear forest, the forest I seem to have designed in my plan for the year. Somehow I think I expected to write out my goals and they would appear, but now...
I've mapped out the woods, each tree by tree, yet I haven't seemed to have suddenly started to do Yoga more, or eat better or any of those things...
so how to enter the forest?
 that's my dilemma...

I guesss I just need to walk in,
one step at a time...
tree by tree...
