Yet more monsters

These watercolor monsters are fun!
Maybe it is the fact that they are unplanned.
Or maybe it is the pretty colors.
Or maybe even that i was NOT going to "use" them in any way!
Sometimes, when i start a piece that I have plans for, like if i want it to "become" fabric, or a card set, or a page of a book, then the pressure is on to do it perfectly.
With these, as with a mandala, there is no right or wrong really, and i can just have fun.

In my head, as i have been for weeks, i am still trying to come up with the cutest, friendliest and at the same time slightly scary monster for the fabric series I wanted to make, but this type of watercolor monster was just a bit of practice in my sketchbook, and so i was free to play. I don't have any idea what the monster will look like when I start just smudging on watercolor paint. But then it appears!

Sometimes a bit of play is just what you need, and sometimes the play ends up better than the planned piece.
And if that happens, even if it is in my sketchbook, i can still use it for the end product since most of my end projects now involve a print or photo of the art and not the original anyway.

So really, after saying all that, now I realize The Difference is all in my head.

If i could start every piece with the same attitude i start these watercolor monsters then painting would ALWAYS be just fun.
(Well, it mostly is just fun anyhow)
but my point is; I do sometimes get caught up in wanting perfection right from the start.
And by wanting it, it becomes more a chore than a joy.

We all need more joy!

And why is it these two of my five cats ignore me completely until I sit down to create?

Happy PPf!

5 things

Another busy week.
Here's 5 things that made me happy...

1. Going in to work early for some overtime let me see some amazing sunrises!

2. Going for rides with my son, I got to see some wonderful animals.... Deer, a bear just outside of town about 30 yards from a woman having a yard sale who never even knew it was there, bunnies, Hawks, cardinals, and this
heron.....

3. Harvesting all this from my garden! My daughter is juicing 3 times a day while she quits smoking and will probably juice this all up in no time. She's made it over a week now so I am proud of her!

4. Searching through fabric for a new project. (I know... The voice in my head says "another new project! You haven't finished the last projects yet!") but I am shushing it because it is fun to plan, and technically it is not a NEW project if it has been rattling around I my head for over a year.

5. Playing in my sketchbook just for fun. I had no plans to do anything with this piece, I just wanted to practice more monsters, like I have posted the last few Sunday's to "Sunday sketches", but This time I wanted to start with random water colors instead of with a sketch, to see if that would change them up a bit and trigger some new ideas....

More monsters for Sunday Sketches

Not sure, yet, if these are the final sketches for the fabric or not.
I don't think so.
I want them to be more lovable somehow.
A monster who is still a monster but one you truly want to find under your bed, that is what i am shooting for.
I hope I will know when i get there....

Sunday sketches

Been playing around with the idea of monsters.....

Not sure even how to go about creating my own perfect monster......
......wanting a friendly sort......
but also having decided I enjoy drawing the spiralling horns...
.......and the wobbly eyes.....
I am hoping to come up with four or five I really like,
Which will then be fabric.
(I know, i say that about everything i paint anymore!)
