More monsters for Sunday Sketches

Not sure, yet, if these are the final sketches for the fabric or not.

I don't think so. 

I want them to be more lovable somehow.

A monster who is still a monster but one you truly want to find under your bed, that is what i am shooting for. 

I hope I will know when i get there....

Sunday sketches

Been playing around with the idea of monsters.....

Not sure even how to go about creating my own perfect monster...... 

......wanting a friendly sort......

but also having decided I enjoy drawing the spiralling horns...

.......and the wobbly eyes.....

I am hoping to come up with four or five I really like,

Which will then be fabric.

(I know, i say that about everything i paint anymore!)

quick sketches

a few sketches in preparation for a botanical page i want to do in my sketchbook to make into spoonflower fabric. Submitting to spoonflower was on my list to do this year, and botanical is their current contest. I love that style fabric so i thought i may give it a try.
I will let you see it if i get a page done...

Fairy Tea

welcome to a fairy tea party....

 

 the fairy ring made especially for the mushroom loving woodland fae...

unfortunately the fairies gobbled up the clover candy and the acorn scones so fast i didn't even get a photo of the food.....

 

 

 

and a quick sketch of the fairy who served the cakes and poured the hot tea...

 

 

when i came back later to clean up after the festivities, i found this lovely offering left by the fairies for me in appreciation ...

 

 

It will be the perfect speciman for future sketches don't you think?

I'm late for the Butterfly effect's party of heros yet I quickly sketched a hero today in the last page of my sketchbook, which means....

I get to start a new one!!!!! yeah, that's always so exciting!!!

well, to me it's exciting, not like winning the lottery or even $20.00 on a scratch off, which of course you have to buy to win and I don't generally buy them,.... actually starting a new sketchbook is about the same excitment level as winning $20.00. wouldn't you agree? maybe not.

so now I'm thinking about levels of excitement... maybe not as exciting as having a baby or getting married but about as exciting as having a sale on etsy, I just love that! ....and as exciting as finding a dollar on the street, or passing a test with a top score or getting art in the mail, or realizing you still have a candy bar in your purse, or painting your nails a bright color, or watching your kids open presents.... OK that one might be more exciting than a new journal/sketchbook. But how about having someone compliment you in any way, or seeing toddlers hug, or knowing you have an hour to yourself to do as you please! all pretty exciting wouldn't you say?

So.... I totally got sidetracked, I was talking about hero's. Here's the questions that went with the theme at the Butterfly Effect and my answers...

1. What Super Power would you posses?
Flying, I love to dream about flying! (very Exciting)

2. What's your costume of choice?
Just a cape, maybe in purple. And a crown and maybe sometimes a mask, also purple.

3. Do you have/want a sidekick?
A skunk named Bonnie Blue, wait wasn't that Scarlet's daughter's name? I'm not sure.

4. What's your weakness?
Chocolate flavored Kryptonite

5. You a lover or a loner?
A loner, no wait, both.

6. Do you have a secret identity/ordinary life to juggle?
Don't we all?

7. Being a hero can make you enemies - who's/what's yours?
The dastardly evil villians who don't pay their child support, as that's my dayjob.

8. What's your motto or catchphrase?
Be brave, be bold, be happy anyway!

I haven't posted to sunday sketches in awhile and I have plenty of sketches in my little black sketchbook, so here' the lastest 2...

Purple

Something from my sketchbook: the theme for creative tuesday is purple and the theme for the sketchbook challenge this month is resist. So this applies to both, I can't resist anything sweet, specially pie. I never used to like fruit pie, I liked peanut butter pie and pecan pie, and of, course my favorite was my mom's lemon merangue pie, but now I like grape pie and rhubarb pie, etc etc etc. Don't you just love the scene in the movie; Michael, where they're eatting pie at the diner and they're talking about they're favorite kinds and she sing a song about pie? (The photo is bad, couldn't get a good shot, too blurry.)

And since my yard finally looks like spring I had to post some pictures... this morning it looked like a fairy land, the grass completely covered with forget me knot, violets and there' purple Myrtle out back, which crept over from the cemetary which is behind my yard, now they're mostly gone as we had to mow. Sucha  shame. Happy Mother's Day!

This one is for the sketchbook challenge theme of "branching out", literally!

And this one is just for dthaase's site of whimsy, he asked for poems of popcorn, and I gave him a one-line as a bonus!

IF, bicycle

So this little one line sketch is a unicycle, not a bicycle but hey it's close. I threw in the other little sketch I did yesterday too. A bit of a change from my watercolors, just for IF!

Sunday sketches and books

I was using this great book by Linda Revenscroft lately. I love her art and she has great instructions on how to paint faries and their clothes. Even though my ladies aren't all fairies, it has helped me. You can see that this sketch in my idea sketchbook is influenced by her...

Sketching and reading

This is from my idea sketchbook this week... Future paintings are started here and I did a type of zentangles, but I need to check out more of their blog... Sorry for the poor quality photos as my house is so dark it's hard to get a good pic...

This is what I'm reading but as I'm sure something incredibly horrifying is to be revealed soon or at the end, and I'm just not sure I'm up to reading whatever it is, I've put the book aside for weeks. If anyone has read it let me know a reason to keep reading it, as I hate not to finish a book I've started....

Sunday sketches and sketchbook challenge...

Did these with the theme of opposites in a flimsy little sketchbook meant for kids. It's just a place I sketch in for ideas for future paintings. But after reading the sketchbook challenge page I decided to go with their theme of "opposites". I normally start drawing ladies, starting with their face, even if I plan to do something else. So this time I made myself start with something Opposite... geometric shapes. I started with the triangles then couldn't resist filling them in with more organic shapes and such. Then I tried 2 sketches of a woman and a monster but I tried to not worry about making it pretty, just kept my pen on the page and let it be ugly.... My art always ends up cute and I tried not to let that happen, the lady is not cute but I'm afraid the monster pretty much ended up that way.
