Waxing philosophical

I hadn't palnned to get all philosophical but after i wrote this i had to change the title....

I was over visiting Tracy Fletcher King's blog, which if i wasn 't on my ipad I would put a link to, and who most of you know but if you don't you should definately go there as her blog is so perfect and her style is so identifiable and her humor is so wondefully dry, that whenever she decides to make her blog into a book it
will be a best seller....

Anyway, I was there and as she posted about why she doesn't enjoy zentangles, it made me start to wonder why I do love them...

I love that they all have names and if you are so inclined you can catergorize them, make some system of storing the tangles so you would have them readily available when you were wondering what one to use next....
I used to be much more into ordering things, keeping stuff in it's place, that side of it appeals to me, although now i don't do that anymore. I have had to give up that little bit of obsession with order because with my son it just works better to go with the flow. Actually people at work who know me now but didn't know me before say i am layed back and even lacadaisical. I disagree but because I rarely get upset about all the work drama, (who has time for that kind of stress, when there's so much more meaningful stress to really latch on to?), i see why they might say that.

So anyway, my point is that even though I like the fact there's names and it can be an ordered hobby, what is relaxing about zentangling is that you don't HAVE to think at all about it. Once you learn a few, you can just move your pen and it flows together with no real thought needed. It really is zen. And if you use a good pen and quality paper like they suggest, it is a pleasure!

All that said... Here's a zentangle I thought a bit about because it was a challenge from over at thebrightowl.blogspot.com? Hope you enjoy, i am also posting it over at sundaysketches. Sorry for the lack of links to these sites, it's not letting me connect them today.

  1. This is so pretty. Mim in awe of zentanglers who can make the various patterns come together so beautifully. Mine always feel so cramped and chaotic and unzenlike.

I love the way you've added such soft, pretty colors as well.

  2. That should read, "I'm in awe...". My ipad's autocorrect gets ahead of me sometimes. :-(

  3. Just beautiful Andrea :D I love the looseness of your tangles, more cobweb than crochet, if you get my drift :D I used to doodle interlocking rings of fire on my folders at school...filling whole margins, just drifting through time :D XXX

  7. I agree, Tracey is an amazing artist and the humor and comedy is unending!! I love it!! But I also agree with what you say about zentangles I feel the same way!! Yours is beautiful by the way!! Also used to be very anal about everything and now I am more inclined to be lackadaisical. There really are enough sincerely meaningful stresses, that we need to relax about the petty things in life!! I do love those calgon take me away moments zentangles give me!!

  9. woohoo... don't think I have ever inspired someone to be philosophical... usually I induce eye rolling and head shaking... thanks for the kind words and I have to say I am now going and searching for the fact that they have names??? really like harry, george and chelsea, or like rolling wave, sitting stone type names... naming tangles and patterns would make them more fun in my book... I am off to design one that I can call skinny butt wiggle... now that is a tangle I would like to have... sure it won't be as pretty as your gorgeous one here... xx

  12. I love your zentangles and I read Tracey's post on them too (like you I love her work and her wit in equal measure!) I've been meaning to try them for ages and her lack of joy for them made me think twice but I think I'll still give it a go - I'm going to google them when I get a sneaky minute at some point today and maybe try to incorporate them into illustrations for summer of colour which I'm determined to participate in this year!

  19. Your Zentangle is beautiful, so lacy and free flowing. I'm new to Tangling and looking forward to the day when I know and/or remember the names of the Tangles and they just come to mind without having to search for them or look them up. You are very talented!
