this week

a quick week here...

I finished my spread in the sisterhood sketchbook for September. Autumn is my favorite season, I love the colors, the feel of the air, the cooler breezes, wearing sweaters, etc etc  so I wrote a few of those things on my artwork of a lady falling in to a field of goldenrod. The sun is a long slanting warm september sun. I also love that september; with school starting, always seems like a chance to start over, get organized, get things right!

The second page is where we write about what we painted and I also did a quick color wheel from my college interior design class where we learned the word "shibui". It's the colors of nature, and you make it by adding 1 part of the color opposite on the color wheel.  (Thank you  to my professor, Mr. Nye 20 years ago.)

I also got some of those little circles made into pendants but only got one photographed for my etsy shop.

I won th alpacateam challenge again so this week people are using this item in the treasuires... so much fun!!!

And I'm part of the etsy ugly cute team on etsy and a fellow team member had the great idea to use other team members art items for inspiration for her  plush stuffed fleece creatures. You can see her shop here...
http://www.etsy.com/shop/kathrynmuse?ref=seller_info
here's my art she used for inspiration...

and here's her plush guy....
Isn't he just the cutest? I love him!
You can check out her shop for more art inspired plushies!!!!

And one last thing... Does any one else love cemetaries or is it just me? My co-workers think I'm crazy to go for walks in cemetaries. But it's as close to getting out in nature that you can get in town, there's definately a feeling of peace there, a hushed reverence like a church I suppose, either from the old trees or from the spirits. And the old stones are so pretty, so my photos a day are from the cemetary this week...

steps to nowhere...

See ya next week!

  4. Your journal has enlightened me this week. I wasn't familiar with the word shibui. I did learn way back when that it makes a painting cohesive to use a smidge of each color in each image. Sometimes one can get by with just a dot or two and other times a big area. Your painting and the following page are both so gorgeous. Thanks for the lesson. Also, the cemetery pictures are very beautiful and would make wonderful paintings themselves. Faye

  8. I truly admire your journal art, fabulous. I too am ever impressed with the calmness of the air in cemeteries. I make my hubby stop the car regularly so I can get out and take photos of old craggy ones :D I guess we're just classically weird :D XXX

  9. Love your journal pages and all your work. I take walks in cemetaries when I have the time. It is so peaceful. Except for one time when I seemed to be all alone at the cemetary and then this guy popped out of no where and started walking in the other direction but walking very weird like in night of the living dead. I got spooked so I left. tee hee. Love all your work.

  12. Your journal art is gorgeous and congrats on the Etsy award.
I adore cemeteries and just posted a charcoal impression of a design I rubbed. It is a part of the WIP I'm doing for Paint Party Friday and a Halloween Blog Party I'm giving (with prizes ) this coming October 8th.
Those pictures of the graveyard are so beautiful and I adore the mossy steps. Imagine rubbing that rose tombstone, only one needs permission to do so these days. Cemeteries are a sanctuary for the soul..a window to what is important in one's life.....truly an inspiring source for me. I try to frequent them as often as I can.
Gloria put a smile on my face when I read her comment. I too was in a cemetery one early Spring morning a few years ago and was writing a poem when something strange happened to me and I could never go back there again...got quite spooked by the whole experience. I do want to return some day soon so I can resume the poem or should I say begin the story again..just need to get the courage back and the spooky incident turned off ; )

I wrote a spooky poem for this lovely photograph done by a Montreal photographer......Enjoy.

I LOVE to wander through graveyards, too! You are not alone. Great pics btw. I feel such peace in them and autumn is my favorite time to explore them. Have you ever done rubbings? That's on my list of things to do... sometime :)

  18. What beautiful art- love your sketchbook!

Every Autumn we take our family on a nice walk through a cemetery- we love looking at the different names, and how long they lived, and the interesting designs of headstones etc. We have a lot of really interesting Pioneer cemeteries near here, and those are some of my favorite to visit!

  21. Does not match the color and the sweet weightlessly of your paintings, your taste for walking in the cemeteries ... in my city is catching on guided tours to some very old cemeteries, but our culture have not assimilated well. Saludos

Falling songs... You should add the plain white tees - Rhythm of love.

My head is stuck in the clouds ...She begs me to come down
    Says, "Boy, quit foolin' around"
I told her, "I love the view from up here...Warm sun and wind in my ear
We'll watch the world from above
As it turns to the rhythm of love"

  37. I love the journal page, but you can't wear a sweater in my ton in the fall, we are still in the 90s lol
As for the cemeteries, well, we don't have a cool old style around here, just the modern flat kind :o(
But I do like the concrete work. Anything old, antique etc....
