rainbows

The theme over at Butterfly effect where, as most of you know, we are ALL PRETTIER!!!, is rainbows. I have always loved rainbows....

A few random facts...

**I wore ski sweaters in highschool because you could find them with rainbows on the sleeves.

**I owned a tiny 2x2 watercolor painted rainbow that Thom Klika made . He was the original rainbow man. He had a shop in Woodstock where my family went in the summers on our way to Cape Cod for vacations. He used to (before my time there) hand out hand painted tiny cards with rainbows on them. I had a jigsaw puzzle with the image of 100 of them on it  and an actual card which I seem to have lost over the 30 years since. :.(

** I painted a pastel rainbow on my bedroom wall when I was a teenager.

**I'm late for work or I'd think of more rainbow facts...

Here's one of my latest mandalas.... I started naming them...It's called fluid spring...

 Here's my son's rainbow!

These next 3 are from a lesson in Carla Sonheim's book that I'm trying to work through, and keep up with Cameron over at Paintmyselfpretty. It's a great book but if you want to see more lessons go to cameron's blog! In this one you paint random swirls of watercolor then try to find imaginary animals in it and sketch them in. I kept seeing faces but here's a few tries anyway...

see ya soon!

  4. OK - did we have the same childhood? I wore the sweaters - heck yeah. and had the ski vest that had rainbows on the shoulder, so that when you wore your sweater underneath it the rainbow continued from shoulder to cuff. This was '78? '79?. and I swear I had that same 100-rainbow puzzle. didn't know the artist's name, but when I clicked your link it all came rushing back to me. my sister painted the rainbow on HER wall. I wore rainbow suspenders (a la Mork). this last bit might be what turned me OFF of rainbows. love your imaginary creature paintings. -Karen

  8. this is a really lovely mandala. It looks so complicated. I have a friend in the Neatherlands who does mandala classes and I always thought they were so wonderful, but I've never done one.

Oh, by the way, I'd really appreciated it if in your post you could either put my APR blog link or just generally mention the theme (even just say your painting reminds you of spring). I only ask because as I collect everyone's art for the wrap up at the end of the week sometimes I'm unsure of the piece you wanted included. Like, the piece in the previous post is about spring or reminds me of spring as it's about rain. It would so make my job easier.
Thanks so much Andrea, I hope to see you next week! (theme sneak preview... think "gotta have a cuppa", lol)

  9. I love Carla's book and the fun, yet challenging, lessons she shares. Your mandala is great - I can never get all that symmetry to look even, but yours is perfect! Visiting from PlayRoom.

  11. I love the idea of sketching creatures over random swirls, but I'm always too chicken to try it - got to get over that. Yours are lovely.
