or maybe I will use other people's words... Spadoman had this to say last week, and I loved it...
"I love the rocks and stones. They are the Grandmothers and Grandfathers you know. They have been around for all time and have seen everything that mankind has done. They have all the wisdom we might desire. Hold them in your hand and ask them what you need to, they will answer. They will take your problems and troubles from you and carry them beyond the Star Nation. To have a reverence for the rocks is a good thing."
I love the contrast
of fine delicate white lines
on hard solid rock.
A couple people asked what I was using for paint... well I tried white acrylic ink with a liner but ended up drawing with a white gel pen. They will need to be sealed but I haven't gotten that far yet.
And .....then I have some photos my mother took of some rocks stacked by Bill Peisher, a friend of ours. I knew he was stacking these in front of his house but whenever I would be by there they had been knocked down by kids. So until my mother took these photos I had no idea how amazing his stacking was...
My mother secretly, well secretly until she recently fessed up, left the crochet rock on his stone.
There will be more to come as I can't stop drawing on rocks...
how cool is your mum! yarn bomber extroadinaire. Hope you'e getting some sleep, i love your grandmothers and grandfathers!
ReplyDeleteThank you for mentioning my name in your blog. You are very kind. That is special and makes me feel good inside. I was repeating the words taught to me by someone very special. It was a teaching from a Native Elder named Chris. Chris has left this world, but the teachings that were left can be passed around. Use what you need of them and leave the rest.
ReplyDeleteWhen I repeat teachings like these, I get reinforced and it motivates me to seek spirit. Chris is glad you like this lesson.
I love your rock paintings. I will talk to you at some point about some kind of a trade or perhaps even to purchase one. Might you consider a custom piece? I really love the yin yang.
Delightful that the crocheted rock was left atop another and then built upon itself. Very cool.
Peace
Your rock art is beautiful! It has such great contrast from the crisp white to the stone grays. I have such respect for Bill- I tried to stack some rock on vacation this spring- it is really tough. Can't begin to imagine using a crescent shaped rock to do it. I was just using mostly flat rocks and it was still hard (but led to lots of laughing as we all tried to hold it up as I repositioned the one below).
ReplyDeleteLoving your rock art and your mothers touch is great. Happy PPF, Annette x

ReplyDeleteWow, those rock piles are amazing! How does he do it I wonder!? And your zentangled rocks look so beautiful! Doesn't your white gel pen get ruined in the process?
ReplyDeletevery fun!!! I must try this out-love the house in the background too-
ReplyDeleteAmazing work and ironically I have been thinking about painting on rocks as I just had a labyrinth put in and some painted rocks would look lovely there ~ Spadoman influences me also ~ and the Tackle It Tuesday had the Holy Isle which had painted rocks ~ synchronicity is happening here I believe ~ thanks for your inspiration and reinforcing what my spirit has felt about painting rocks ~ sending healing hugs to you and your family ~ rest ~ namaste (A Creative Harbor)

Rock love. The rock wrapped in crochet is brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI just love your rock drawings! And with a gel pen--wow! Your mother's crocheted rock sweater is awesome and the stacked rock garden is amazing! Maybe you should leave a decorated rock for Bill's rock garden. Those neighbor kids....grrrr!!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, these "delicate white lines on hard solid rock..." When I first looked at the stacked rocks, your mother's was the first I saw! You both know how to weave softness around solid... it is lovely! Thank you!

ReplyDeleteThe perfect pretty object for just about anywhere I can think of!
Those stacks are impressive...what a cool thing for him to do!
I love your drawings on the rocks. They look like fun to make. I really like the stacking stones. Hurray for your mother. How sweet.
ReplyDeleteYour stone illustrations are just perfect! I love these perfectly flat round stones you use as well and that quote by Spadoman is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteOh my word - those stacking stones are awesome - does he glue them together or how on earth do they balance!! they look fabulous!
Love your stones. They have a mysterious, primal feel to me--and I'm so glad you told us what you were using for the white--that was going to be my question!

Your top rock with the points and the paisley is just mesmerizing to me.
ReplyDeletethe stacks for rocks are wonderful. There is a guy in San Francisco who we see doing this by the beach.
How sad kids knock Bills over.
I saw the crocheted rock right away! Groovey!
Great words from Spadoman and awesome rock art all around! White lines on rock are beautiful and I've never seen rocks stacked like Bill's, looks very original! And the yarn bombing; love it! :) Rock' n Roll!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. I love these!! As soon as I started scrolling down, they took my breath away. Love the line work.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!
ReplyDeleteI am soooooo loving your rocks. I also love your mom's idea of leaving her crocheted rock - like a little love note in his yard. Maybe you should leave one of yours too :) Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteThat is incredible! I can't believe a white gel pen worked so beautifully on the rough texture of the rocks. Stunning!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos and ornate art!
ReplyDeleteArt and rocks are 2 of my favorite things!
I do love the stories that rocks tell.

Cool Zentangled rocks! They look great. Have a happy artsy weekend.
ReplyDeleteI love your brayd-on-a-rock! I also like the inapod-like drawing that it's sitting on top of! That neighbor of yours is an AWESOME rock stacker! It reminds me of a farm I drive by on my way to college. The farmer has cleared rocks from his fields and someone has created some very interesting rock stacks along the road. I love it when people are so creative just for the sheer fun of it! Your mother is also so creative to think of making a crocheted cover for that rock. :D
ReplyDeleteAll your pictures are fun to look at; and I too, love your brayd-on-arock. I did some rock painting a few years ago; but hadn't thought about tangling them yet. That's a great idea! Will have to go in my "idea" book.
ReplyDeletePossibly the most amazing rocks ever! Both your painted ones, and the stacks. Must go stack rocks now! And I loved that quote; it's so true, and probably why I have always been a collector of rocks.
ReplyDeleteWhat happy rocks.....all beautiful and the brayded one fits in so well!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful!!!! Love the tangles on the rocks. I myself have tangled on some small stones, gave them to people and (until now) they realy like that.
ReplyDeleteI did also put one on the grave of a loved person that died very young. This idea comes from what I saw at a jewish cemetery and the idea touched me.
Yes, rocks are very special.

Love the art work on the rocks. I've never tangled on rocks yet. Your Brayd is beautiful. Really amazing how your friend can stack these rocks. Especially the one with the crescent shaped rock. Fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful work. Aside from loving all the tangles rocks and the unbelievable stacks, what is that your Brayd rock is sitting on? Have you done designs on fabric?
ReplyDeleteWow as usual you amaze me!!!I have bumped into so many spiritual posts this ppf!! Yours is no exception!! Each rock is so special, and your moms photos of inukshuks are fantastic!! Love the crochet fun too!! Your flower rock and yin yang are truly my favorites!! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteHugs Giggles
Rock and roll, I love the twist of brayd on the rock!
ReplyDeleteI like your rocks, I haven't seen any this good for years! they were popular in the 70s - would love to see your work over a larger area. Your fallen ladies look fun too, Betty (I was just skimming by on Paint Party Friday as a newbie).
