Scribblepicnic

Hello, the theme this week over at Dotty hill is boat. And like umbrella, a boat us something that to me symbolizes safety. I am not sure why, I don't really love or dislike actual boats, but to me the image of a boat in art represents being carried to safety, especially if the boat is a tiny sweet boat, or a folded paper boat etc. I am sure that us just me, but that thought led me to this piece....

Sunday sketches

Been meaning to try linocuts again for awhile now, so while I was at Michaels I picked up some rubber sheets. Here's a rough draft of the image I want to try carving....

I am linking up to Alexandra Macvean's Sunday sketches. Blogger hates me lately, no matter what app I use, some will not let me include links, (hence no link to Sunday sketches) and other will not let me add photos at all? What is up with that?

Anyway, IF I get this carved, and IF I get it printed, and IF Blogger accepts my apologies for whatever slights I have given it, and allows me to create another blogpost: I will post the end result sometime soon.

An umbrella for scribblepicnic

I had to join in this week's scribblepicnic because I love umbrellas. I have added them to my art off and on from the beginning when I was painting just falling ladies. Umbrellas have symbolized a safety net of sorts for me and I am not entirely sure why, but on top of that , I just think they are pretty! (I have a ton in my art inspiration board on Pinterest). So here's this week's girl and umbrella....

And here's a close up before the final details were added....

Then, As I was writing this I thought I would look for some of my early water colors with umbrellas that I mentioned and I found this from 2012...... pretty much the same coat and everything! I had totally forgotten I had ever done this one!
And then I found two more old ones.... my art has changed quite a bit since I did these....

Happy paint party Friday

Been spending a lot of time on instagram lately... no need to come up with much to say there and it is easy to just post a quick photo of whatever I am working on at the moment. There is also a group on instagram posting a #marchmeetthemaker series of daily posts that I have played along with... so here are some of the photos I have posted there....

Some random  pages from my sketchbook done for practice or other various reasons ...

And from meet the maker this is me.....

And these are my favorite things to create: colorful watercolor; colorful fabric and things from my fabric like dolls or quilts, and then last; colorful felt thingys.

And for day three: a photo of my work area but since I work at my desk on breaks from my day job or at home on the dining room table or couch, I just photographed these guys who over look my desk and watch over my art.

And lastly day 4 tomorrow will be my favorite art supplies.....I have a lot of other supplies but these are my everyday go to stuff: watercolor brush, travel watercolor set that I put together from tube watercolors, #2 pencil, water jar with a waterproof lid so I can travel, paper towel, pencil sharpener and salt. I didn't show my strathmore visual journal but that is my favorite kind of sketchbook.

So see you around, here or on instagram!

A cabin for scribble picnic @dotty-hill

I honestly do not think I have ever painted a cabin before. I rarely do houses or architecture, so I almost didn't play along with this challenge at the newly created "scribble picnic" @ Michael Macvean's blog
But I am glad I did, the first two tries were so horrible I couldn't even keep them, truly, I think I was trying too hard to be realistic and I guess that is not my style.

Then this little cabin showed up and I liked it and remembered how to paint again so I did three more....
I liked doing them so much I have now even started a girl with a cabin in the background but don't have it ready to show yet.....
So I guess I am saying... thanks for the challenge!
