Did these with the theme of opposites in a flimsy little sketchbook meant for kids. It's just a place I sketch in for ideas for future paintings. But after reading the sketchbook challenge page I decided to go with their theme of "opposites". I normally start drawing ladies, starting with their face, even if I plan to do something else. So this time I made myself start with something Opposite... geometric shapes. I started with the triangles then couldn't resist filling them in with more organic shapes and such. Then I tried 2 sketches of a woman and a monster but I tried to not worry about making it pretty, just kept my pen on the page and let it be ugly.... My art always ends up cute and I tried not to let that happen, the lady is not cute but I'm afraid the monster pretty much ended up that way.
"Just kept my pen on the page . . ." Are these one line drawings? The lady looks like it might be.
ReplyDeleteThe monster and lady were, yes.
ReplyDeletethe first picture is cool. I love the 2nd two, with the one line drawings, wow they came out great...your "ugly" is fab! love it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting approach! "Ugly" is way cute. ^.^
ReplyDeleteThey are all great and so very interesting too!
ReplyDeleteI think your ugly guy is VERY cute!!
love the style in these
ReplyDeleteyour sketches are wonderful. I love all the lines and that you let the lines just go where they wanted.
ReplyDeleteLove all three pieces, but especially 'Opposites'
ReplyDeleteI have been exploring a bit around the Zendangles. Seems similar to some pieces I did when I was younger... might give them a try.

Oh, Mr Ugly is just adorable...well done you, I know it's not easy trying to do the opposite of what comes naturally...my opposite quite often end up in the bin...good idea, I must push myself to do more opposite....
ReplyDeletecool patterns in the first, ugly is cute, and that is an interesting portrait. Fun technique to keep your pen on the paper for the last two.
