The small magic of white flowers in the moonlight

“I am your moon and your moonlight too
I am your flower garden and your water too. I have come all this way, eager for you
Without shoes or shawl
I want you to laugh
To kill all your worries
To love you
To nourish you.”
Rumi

There is something about white flowers that draws me to them, even more than colorful flowers. Maybe it is the romance of a moonlight garden, something I have always wanted.
But I spent my lunch hour recently at a local greenhouse, photographing just the white flowers there.
the sheep live outside the greenhouse and were just a bonus of the afternoon...

I have been known to waste time googling 'moonlight gardens', like this article on how to create one, or pinning photos of white flowers to this board.
(Trust me, that board is just too beautiful not to click on)
And I have painted other white flowers along the way too, here and here....

I love color
and I love just about every flower,
wild or cultivated.
Does anyone hate a flower?
But for me,
the white flowers hold the most magic.
Like they have a secret to tell...

A pure thought just waiting to be whispered in your ear
If you just take the time to listen.

A few weeks ago I posted about my idea of small magic, and that I planned to make a monthly post on the 13th to show what I find magical. I had planned to add a linky tool so others could link with their posts about how they all find small magic. I am now using blogger on my Ipad, and for some reason the linky tool will not work for me, but if you have a post about small magic you want to share, please leave a link to it in your comment and maybe I will have the tool thing worked out by next month on the13th...
I hope you feel like joining in, and I can't wait to see what you have to say about
what  charms you,
What enchants you,
Or what takes your breath away!

what's blooming in my yard right now...

 wild roses
the phlox imposters: wild sweet rocket
buttercups
and some unknown hedge with tiny white flowers that smell delicious

Mango and DirtyPopcorn love to eat plants... I already learned this the hard way when they ate half the garden plants I started from seed indoors this spring...

“I remember once walking out hand in hand with a boy I knew, and it was summer, and suddenly before us was a field of gold. Gold as far as you could see. We knew we'd be rich forever. We filled our pockets and our hair. We were rolled in gold. We ran through the field laughing and our legs and feet were coated in yellow dust, so that we were like golden statues or golden gods. He kissed my feet, the boy I was with, and when he smiled, he had a gold tooth.

It was only a field of buttercups, but we were young.”
Jeanette Winterson, The Powerbook

 “Tumbling-hair
picker of buttercups
violets
dandelions
And the big bullying daisies
through the field wonderful
with eyes a little sorry
Another comes
also picking flowers”
e.e.cummings

“Westley: Hear this now: I will always come for you.
Buttercup: But how can you be sure?
Westley: This is true love-you think this happens every day?
Westley: I told you I would always come for you. Why didn't you wait for me?
Buttercup: Well...you were dead.
Westley: Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while.
Buttercup: i will never doubt again.
Westley: There will never be a need.”
William Goldman

white flowers in watercolor

amidst all the other things I have been painting I have been wanting to do more white flowers in watercolor, after i enjoyed doing those white roses so much. If you missed it they are here.

I like it but I was much happier with the white roses...
I have a bunch more photos of other white flowers to pick from though so there will be more art soon...

white flowers

I wanted to try something different to paint because I saw a video of a woman painting a white flower and it seemed like a challenge in watercolor.
The smell of these roses was what stopped me ... I could smell them from the car, a whole row of them, past their prime but still beautiful... so this week, no girls, no mandalas... just this...
