I have had this idea on my head for awhile now.... to take the characters that I started doing for the paperdolls that I made....
(the ones with fairies and their friends; I can't even remember if I posted them. I will check and if not i will show you them soon, and hopefully will be listing them on Etsy soon)
....and making a picture book around them. It was just one idea of many so I hadn't worked on it yet, but I thought for this week's illustration for scribblepicnic over at Michael MacVean's blog I would see what ideas came up for my story because I want the fairies and their friends to be in a little woodland area. I had another story idea of fanciful birds leaving messages for little children so I ended up combining the two in this. I am not sure I like the two together but it was an experiment.
Not sure what will come of it, if anything, but it was fun to imagine...

Love your illustrations. And, the fairies are so cute. A whimsical post for sure.
ReplyDeleteCould I just jump in the picture and listen to all the stories your little fairy maiden could spin.....Just a lovely and whimsical take. Have a great week. btw I love her stripped stockings and shoes...too cute.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it!! I love drawings that have a story behind them. This one definitely makes me want to know the story behind the drawing!
ReplyDeleteThose birds in the tree are so neat looking, and the fairy's hairstyle reminds me of seashells. Wonder what's in the envelope - I really do see a book in these lovely illustrations.
ReplyDeleteMary -
This is a lovely page for the theme Andrea!
ReplyDeleteyour images are a bit blurred, I think they are too small to be enlarged like this but what I can see, it's a lovely scene. she seems almost relax with her bear and the dangling envelope. & the tree's nicely decorated too.
ReplyDeletehave a lovely day.
I liked the cropped image, but when I saw the entire piece I liked it even more. Adorable! It will be fun to see what you do with it.
ReplyDeleteAndrea,
ReplyDeleteI love your illustrations - and they would be fabulous in a storybook. Keep us posted.
Blessings,
Janis
love the birds little hat :)
ReplyDeleteActually, Andrea, I think these work really well together! I love it but am sorry it's taken me a bit of time to get here to tell you. I can't recall if I commented on IG where I first saw this beauty but it's great-so well done. Love that tree! Thank you for doing this.
ReplyDeleteBTW, the new themes are up for the week, should you want to see those.
Andrea, this is darling. What a sweet little scene so beautifully done!
ReplyDeleteI love your tree piece, Andrea! Full of interest and lovely colours. I particularly love the little fairy's hair. Very nice. :)
ReplyDeleteNow how can she possibly resist reaching up and opening that envelope? What a perfect tree to sit back and relax against!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tree piece for this theme!
ReplyDeleteOh I have missed your work while I was slogging thru a sick and busy April! I love the story in this image and the possibilities for it are endless. I hope you will explore it further! I just read a book about Irish bird legends for over 20 kinds of birds and I love the idea of bird messengers, they're a part of my book but more like carriers of actual messages between people. This idea of yours is far more magical!!
