It's true the old folktale.... we used to tell this story to our 4 year olds with felt figures to illustrate it when I worked in HeadStart..... about the man who couldn't sleep because it was too noisy in house with his wife and kids so the wise woman told him to make it worse by adding another animal to his little shack, he did but still couldn't sleep, so he asked for advice again, she told him add another, a cow to his little shack, again it didn't help, so she told him to add a horse, and on and on until he couldn't fit into his shack hardly at all. Of course he still couldn't sleep at ALL so he went back one more time and she told him to get rid of all the animals. He did and the house was so quiet with just his wife and kids that he slept wonderfully!!!
Anyway, I did get a few things done... a painting of our fall leaves... just for fun. I wanted to leave the background white like a botanical but just couldn't stand all the white space... I need to work on that.
and some photos from the Naples Grape festival. The grapes smelled sooo wonderful just walking past this vineyard... I'm pretty sure I want to try to paint the grapes! We HAD to buy a grape pie, of course!
And I finshed one of the needlefelted ornaments I showed about 3-4 weeks ago...I think it's done. It's hard to know when to stop with the beads and embroidery etc.
I'm hoping next week to have more detailed photos of how I make the ornaments as I have a few more started. Have a great week!
Wow! Busy lady ~ wonderful creations and photography is awesome, HPPF ~ Carol (Share the Creative Journey) thanks, namaste.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the little story....your fall leaves painging is beautiful. Seeing the picture with the painted background, I can't imagine it just white. Your ornament is full of fibery fun and details....looking forward to seeing how it was created.
ReplyDeleteHappy Fiber Arts Friday!!
I totally sympathise with the sleep deprevasion(that looks totally wrong but spell check didn't have an alternative)neither of my boys slept through till they were 8 yr olds, and then I swear the oldest only slept because his brother was born and took over!!! Love the story though :D
ReplyDeleteYour pics look marvellous, the leaves look beautiful against the softly textured background :D XXX
Fantastic fall leaves painting. I love how you picked up the colors for the background. I am amazed that you can paint the writing so beautifully. Mine would be a mess. This really inspires me to get some leaves and paint them, except ours are still green. It'll be a few weeks yet till we have colored leaves.
ReplyDeletehmmm, sprinkles of glitter, now to start thinking up reasons to dance around and celebrate with glitter...the mail came, glitter-glitter! Toast popped up, glitter-glitter! Ok, lets face it, I don't need any excuse! Your art is so inspiring, love the post!
ReplyDeleteSounds like your son doesn't want to miss a moment of his adventurous life. I like the little story you told about all the animals. Maybe he needs a little snack before bed?
ReplyDeleteI really really like your fall leaves painting. I think you handled the background expertly! I know what you mean about all the white space. I grapple with that too.
Happy PPF! :-)
You are one busy lady...love the fall painting...your work is always so inspiring! POP ART MINIS
ReplyDeleteI really loved the little folk tale, what a great story!! Your art work is wonderful, and what beautiful pictures. Your ornament looks like a very fun project, I need to get started on some needle felting myself! ~April
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the tale and love your beautiful muted backgroud, so much more interesting than white. A super needle felting project once again. Happy PPF, x
ReplyDeleteThat's a funny tale, but so true hehehehe I love your leaves, which look like they are falling also :o)
ReplyDeleteYou make such beautiful things! I am in awe of your painting and of your needle felting.

ReplyDeleteGet some rest...LOVE the ornament.
ReplyDeleteI just love that ornament ... it looks like a hot air balloon for a fairy!
ReplyDeleteyour painting is beautiful! i love the autumn leaves and the colors you used! have a great weekend
ReplyDeleteOh, my boy was a non-sleeper too! I can sympathize.
ReplyDeleteI think your leaves are perfect against that background, like a stormy autumn sky, just beautiful.
I love your painting of the leaves. I'm glad you added the mottled background too. The morning glory picture is beautiful ~ old-fashioned blue is my favorite variety, and brought a smile to my face :) Thank you!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous leaves! your pictures are fun to look at and grape pie sounds great, I've never had it. Looking forward to seeing a tutorial on your ornaments :) I hope you and your son can catch up on some zzz's this weekend ;)

You are awesome, accomplishing so much in spite of lacking sleep.
ReplyDeleteI love the leaf painting. So beautiful...and the background reminds me of the fall sky so perfectly!
Thanks for sharing the joy an dthe sweet story of your son's "good night" to his daddy. Brought a tear of joy to my eye and a ray of happiness in my heart, for you !
Have a great weekend. With some good sleep too, I hope !
oh those leaves are so lovely!
ReplyDeleteI share the sentiments of those 20 people who have written. Get some sleep...and make sure and get out in that amazing weather you are having. It won't be long before it's just too darn cold there!!
ReplyDeleteI Love the mottled background much nicer than white
ReplyDeleteOMGosh! I LOVE that ornament! It's perfect. The painting of leaves is beautiful too but your felting is fabulous!
ReplyDeletePS- Thanks for the lovely compliment on my blog. I can't wait to see the results myself!
ReplyDeleteThe leaves are just beautiful and if that is what you can achieve in a week without sleep, then you are amazing. I do a lot of botanical work and it makes my hands itch when I see all that white, so you have my sympathies. I solved it by taking my images out to the edge of the paper so there wasn't too much white!! Love your work and hope you get some sleep thins week xx
ReplyDeleteBusy girl! I like that little story. There's a great lesson in there. How does that dear boy of yours live without sleep? How do you?
ReplyDeleteYour son is probably a genius...and smarter than the Dr's are...so they came up for a name for it. Don't you think all of the greatest minds were "unusual" children?
I am loving the ornament even more!
And I wish that page was in my book...but I know that's impossible.
Hang in there Andrea and Shine!
♥♥♥
I like the painting with the background you put, so misty looking; that must be so difficult when your son doesn't sleep; never heard of a grape pie how interesting..
ReplyDeleteOh wow, such creativity, oh NICE! I love the ornaments and your fall leaves are gorgeous! We see deer all the time here too and they are so adorable! Great photos! Deb

ReplyDeleteWonderful photos and great watercolor leaves. It looks so much better than it would with the white background. :)
ReplyDeleteSleep is so important for our well-being; I've had my share of sleeping difficulties. I love the story about the old man. Beautiful painting of the maple leaves!
