I missed a week as we were on vacation in a great state park on a tiny lake! so relaxing and quiet! We hiked fished and swam and I sketched a bit in my book, and we made sand castles... well... sand mermaids!.
Not sure what to show this week... I guess I'll go with what a cluttered mess my mind is now that I'm backhome again...
I have soooo many unfinished watercolors and/or acrylics on brown paper....maybe 30 or so.....
I have started clay belly birds and my son smushed them....
I have been working on some dolls I started a year ago....and the dioramas I showed 2 weeks ago aren't finished yet...
We were given a bag of wool and I made a bead that's hoping to be part of a great, colorful wacky pendant necklace with a big floral center someday....
And on my lunch I went to see some of the other palette's that are now set up around Hammondsport! So many really great ones that I was more than intimidated about mine. Here's just a few of the 50 or so palettes... Prepare to be impressed, although the photos don't really do them justice!...
Have a great week everybody, and hello to all those from whimsical wednesday, and happy friday to all those at paint party friday, crafty friday, creative friday and Fiberart friday!
I love the sand mermaid!
ReplyDeleteI also love the palettes! What a wonderful idea!! I'm assuming each artist in town sets one up?
We paint them and then the people running it decide what business it will go in front of and they set them up, hold an asrtist's reception(which I missed on vacation), and at the end of summer they auction them off...
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post Andrea. I love the sand mermaid too and enjoyed all your WIP's and the palettes - definitely inspiring! Happy PPF and hope your getaway was as relaxing as it looks.

Oh I know that your Falling Ladies would look so good on a palette. I sure would love one. Glad you had a good time and I'm sure you'll get back into the flow of things in no time at all. Happy PPF! Great pictures, thanks.
ReplyDeleteWOW! Your brain sounds like mine - lots of different places at once. It's so hard to finish a piece when you think like that. I often find myself rediscovering unfinished work and thinking 'Oh, I really like that. I should work on that'. Then I get distracted by something else! I can't wait to see what you do with them! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this post especially the mermaid!
ReplyDeleteooooh! The palettes are gorgeous! The first one is super peaceful and of course, I love yours. Your beach mermaid is darling. I'd be so sad to see her washed away though...but such is nature.

ReplyDeleteLove the sand mermaid and those palettes are really cool. Such a great idea!
ReplyDeleteWonderful creative palettes, but I like your mermaid best!
ReplyDeleteIn the third picture from the top, the woman in green with the writing on the paper ... what does that writing say? Is it a poem?
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea.
ReplyDeleteI want to live in a community that does things like that.
Did you cut these display palettes yourselves? Plywood?
And what sort of paint to withstand the elements? Acrylic or house paint?
spinster Beth: Yes it's a poem by emily dickinson
ReplyDeleteA little madness in the spring
is wholesome even for the king
but God be with the clown
who ponders this tremendous same,
this whole experiment in green
as if it were his own.
Joco deane: They were made by the Somers Art Gallery out of plywood I think. They primed them, I painted it using cheap acrylics from walmart on Brett Steves advice,(he runs the gallery) and he sealed it for me, so I don't know what he used.
Oh, I love the sand mermaid! And what a fun way to promote art around town. Love this!
ReplyDeleteI love your mermaid! And those pallets are just awesome; which one is yours? What a cool idea; I'm going to send this to the head of our art commission; we need to do something like this!
ReplyDeleteI love your mermaid! It sounds like a wonderful week (well, except for the smushed clay birds... bummer). I can totally relate to having lots of projects all at once!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing those great palettes... makes me want to take my family on a road trip (Is there a directory of where each palette is located?) Thanks for sharing the photos!

Kristin: I forgot to mention that part: they made a brochure with all the artists names and a map of where they all are. Each palette has a secret letter above it where it's set up, and on the brochure if you fill in the secret letter and complete the code and then turn in your flyer you're eligible for prizes from the chamber of commerce! maps are available near every palette and from the visitor's center on the village square.
ReplyDeleteWonderful pics!! The palettes turned out great - especially love #4! #3 is interesting too - is it a view of that exact spot?
